On June 16, we commemorate the Day of the African Child (#DAC), honoring the students of the 1976 Soweto Uprising, who stood up against the poor quality of education and demanded to be taught in their own languages.
This year, under the theme “Planning and budgeting for children’s rights: progress since 2010”. We are reminded of the need to address the educational challenges faced by African children and to realize the protection and promotion of their rights.
As we mark this important day, the Centre for Human Rights calls for action to safeguard children from rights violations, including #childlabor, #family_separation, lack of access to #education and #healthcare, and threats to their #safety due to #conflict and #insecurity. These concerns needs to be address through child-sensitive laws, policies, and effective planning and implementation that uphold a child rights based approach.
Let us work together to create a future where every African child enjoys their rights to #education, #protection, and a #life free from harm.
